Isn't Modern Life Fun?

"A Place For Everything, And Everything In Its Place."  This common phrase was the inspiration for our blog name, "A Place For Everything."  The phrase's usage in print goes back to the 1800s, and it is generally believed to have been in use as far back as the 1600s.  It has endured through the ages :  if you Google "A Place For Everything," you'll get millions and millions of hits.  Pithy, important advice, we would all do well to heed it.

But use it?  Ah, there you must be careful!

Today I was contacted by someone who stated to be "the owner of the rights to the Trademark name, ' A Place For Everything' with the U. S. Patent and Trademark Office. It has come to my attention that you are using without permission, the name, ' A Place For Everything' in the operation of your blog."

I was informed that "my attorney tells me that indeed the name you are using for your blog is an infringement to my trademark."  The email went on, I think quoting the attorney, to say that "the worst part is that I thought it was your blog because of the square logo, so it's confusingly similar as well, and a false designation of origin. It's not intentional, because you picked a proverb for your trademark. Can you give them a sort of nice warning shot?"  And so came to my inbox a "warning shot."

I have no idea what the reference to the square logo is; and moreover I'm pretty darn sure our use of "A Place For Everything" as our blog title is NOT any sort of trademark infringement.

But I'm too old, too tired, and way too busy to fuss over this.  (Is it any wonder my closets aren't clean yet?????)  So out with the old blog name, and in with a temporary one.

Because apparently there isn't really a place for everything.

  1. Great blog piece, Debbie. We'll come up with a new name that will reflect our goals of simplifying and decluttering...that's even better.
